On 15the April,1981, the vanda hybrid cultivated in Singapore called Vanda Miss Joaquim variety Agnes was made the national flower of Singapore. The Vanda Miss Joaquim was a natural hybrid between Vanda hookerana ans Vanda teres which was cloned to produce the Agnes variety. The main criteria for its selection was its resilience and year-round blooming quality.
People forget about this plant and as such it is not easy to recall its name. This orchid is native to Sarawak. The beautiful, white fragrant flowers are held singly or in pairs on tall stalks ( one meter long) . After a rainy spell, full flowering of the entire clump occurs.
